Walter Williiams High School welcomes new Head Football Coach David Green!

Bio: David Green has been the the Head Football Coach at Leesville Road High School in Raleigh, NC for the past six seasons. Coach Green took over a program at Leesville Road that had struggled to be successful since opening in 1993.

During his tenure at Leesville, the Pride became on the top teams in that area of the state, winning two conference championships, making a trip to the Eastern Finals in 2007, and going to the third round of the playoffs on two other occasions. Coach Green's teams posted a record of 52-24 at Leesville. They won over 50 games the past five seasons. Coach Green has been named Conference Coach of the Year and Area Coach of the Year while at Leesville. His Leesville teams have been known for high powered offenses and defenses that played aggressively.

The Pride sent a number of players to play at the next level during Coach Green's time there. NC State, Duke, North Carolina, Elon and Appalachian State are among the Division I schools that have have Leesville players on their rosters, and there are Leesville players at a number of smaller schools. Three of Coach Green's Leesville Road players have played in the Shrine Bowl. Two of them played in the game for former Williams coach Sam Story.

Prior to coming to Leesville Road, Coach Green was an assistant coach for five years at Apex High School in Apex, NC (just south of Raleigh). During those five years, the Apex Cougars advanced to the state playoffs each year and won the first conference championships in school history.

Coach Green spent 27 years coaching in South Carolina, the last 15 of those at McBee High School, where he guided the Panthers to the conference championship and an undefeated regular season in 1990. In addition to serving as a Head Football Coach and Athletic Director, he has also coached both boys and girls basketball, baseball, boys and girls track and golf. Green has won conference championships and been named Coach of the Year in football, track and golf. He was an assistant coach on a State Championship basketball team and a State Runner-up football team. He has 38 years of coaching experience.

Coach Green achieved the honor of becoming a National Board Certified Teacher in Social Studies in 2005.

He is married to Laurie Calder-Green, who spent many years as a coach, winning numerous State Championships in both volleyball and basketball. She is now retired from coaching and teaching and runs her own business. Coming from a coaching family, her brother, Andrew, is a long-time assistant to Sylvia Hatchell at the University of North Carolina. Her father was a longtime principal and coach and her sister is a coach as well.

Coach Green has two daughters, Angie and Ashlee. Angie is a special education teacher in McBee and has an 8 year old daughter, Kaylee. Ashlee teaches elementary school in Myrtle Beach. He also has three stepchildren: Paul Roberts, Emily Roberts and Hannah Roberts. He also has a granddaughter, Kaylee, who is 8 years old. Paul played for Coach Green at McBee and was a membetr of the football team at UNC. Emily is on the Women's Basketball staff at Memphis University, and Hannah is a student at Appalachian State, where she is a member of the rugby team.
